Dr. Giuseppe Resta, ESIND member and co-leader of Working Group 4, has been awarded the 2026 Edilia and François-Auguste de Montêquin Senior Fellowship by the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) for his research project “Indo-Portuguese architecture through a female gaze: Gritli von Mitterwallner, the Tata Family, and the East-Indian community of Mumbai.” Giuseppe works at the Nuno Portas Studies Center of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (CENP-FAUP), and is part of the ID-SCAPES project (ERC/COG/101125057), coordinated by Sidh Losa Mendiratta.
The planned project examines Indo-Portuguese architecture through the lens of Gritli von Mitterwallner, exploring the relationships between the Austrian researcher, the Tata family, and the East Indian community of Mumbai. As part of the fellowship, the researcher will conduct fieldwork and archival research in Mumbai, Bonn, and Rome, deepening the study of Indo-Portuguese architecture through a new analytical perspective.
The Edilia and François-Auguste de Montêquin Senior Fellowship supports travel related to research on Spanish, Portuguese, or Ibero-American architecture. The Society of Architectural Historians, based in Chicago, USA, is an international organization dedicated to the study, conservation, and promotion of the history of architecture, urbanism, and landscape heritage.
