Call for Hosts – Short-Term Scientific Missions

Post Date:
Opened notebook near tourist supplies

Dear ESIND members,

We are looking for members who are willing and able to host Young Researchers for
Short-Term Scientific Missions. Please read the following information carefully and fill
out the link below.

What are STSMs?

STSMs, or Short-Term Scientific Missions, are exchange visits that provide funding to Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI) for a visit to a host organization located in another country participating in ESIND. These visits may last anywhere from a week up to six months and are intended to support individual mobility, strengthen networks and foster collaboration between researchers. STSMs allow YRI to carry out research in an institution or repository in another country. The research aims of the STSM should be connected with the research foci of the Action, as defined in the MoU: there must be a clear connection between ESIND’s general research objectives and the proposed STSM for it to be eligible for funding. More information can be found on the ESIND website.

To raise awareness of STSMs among young researchers and to encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities, we aim to publicize a webpage listing ESIND-members willing to host, together with some information about the institution and potential research (re)sources. If you are willing to host Young Researchers at your institution and/or have access to interesting repositories with sources relevant to the Action’s research objectives, please fill out the form below.

What will be required of the host before, during and after the STSM?

To be clear, the initiative for the STSM will always be taken by the YRI; it is they who will contact you to request hosting for their research stay. Once both parties agree on the proposed subject and duration of the STSM, the host should send an invitation letter from their institution to the YRI. This letter is required for the STSM-proposal in the COST-application.

During the YRI’s stay in the hosting country, the YRI and host will meet and/or work together depending on the agreements made in advance between both parties. It is advisable to make such arrangements beforehand so that both parties know what to expect from one another. The YRI will receivde funding to arrange their own transportation, food, and accommodation.

After the STSM, the host should send a confirmation letter to the YRI, attesting to the activities and research carried out by the Young Researcher. The YRI will need this letter to claim reimbursement from COST.

If you are open to hosting Young Researchers at your institutions for their STSMs, please complete the following form as soon as possible:

https://forms.gle/8qtBFenSZboTAZzw8

The answers will be collected and published on a separate webpage of the ESIND-website, so that our YRI know which options are available. Let us together provide new opportunities for the Young Researchers of ESIND!

Warm regards,

Jaro Demetter
YRI-Coordinator ESIND
